Fraser Hugill interviews David and Trudy Sanderson on their thoughts and experiences with the lifestyle and nature of farming. They talk about the value of nature and surrounding landscape, low intensity farming, environmental schemes and tenancy farming. David and Trudy take us through their journey from financial survival to diversification and talk about the importance of getting the balance right between working for the farm and the farm working for you.

David and Trudy Sanderson are National Trust tenant farmers on the Bransdale Estate in the North York Moors. They farm 330 cheviot X Blackface moor breeding ewes and followers as one of 11 graziers on the 6000ha Bransdale moor.  Cattle have been added into the system building from 5 Belted Galloway cattle to meet previous stewardship requirements to 24 head currently. The farm is totally off grid with power coming from an Archimedes screw hydro system and solar panels. David and Trudy have recently converted part of the farmhouse into a self catering holiday let and have recently obtained planning permission to convert one of the buildings to a small camping barn.
